Did you know kratom acts like some medications in terms of interactions with food? Fruits like grapefruit and bitter melon inhibit the CPY 3A4 enzyme in the liver and the small intestine. To enter the blood stream, alkaloids from kratom must first pass through these kind of enzyme in the GI tract. The fruits I mentioned can shut down the enzyme for up to 72 hours.

What does this mean? Having less of the enzyme means slower absorption of mitragynine, but higher absorption efficiency: ie, longer lasting doses that hit harder. This is something to be cautious about if your unaware, or something to experiment with if you're careful.
